jay davenport
i met the coolest dude two weekends ago. it's sarah's cousin jay. he was the cool one.
when everyone was was grilling me and kevin (that's sarah's sister's fiancee') about where we work, what we do, where the honeymoons are, where we're going to live... bla bla bla, jay was the one who would jump in the middle and make a joke so the attention was off of us.
he even came right out and said, "jeeze... why don't you put a giant spotlight right over here!" but in a funny way.
then it turns out he lives near kalamazoo, mi. and we were going to grand rapids, mi the next weekend. he offered for us to stay at his house. he even offered to let holly and jamin stay at his house with us after never having met them.
so that's exactly what we did. we went to see rob bell preach a rerun of "everything is spiritual" and then we drove 40 miles south to jay's house. we got there around midnight (or was it 1??? there was a time change somewhere in there...) and he was asleep on the couch.
we walked right in anyway and he ended up waking up while the four of us tried to sneak into his guest bedrooms. he was totally happy to see us even though he said we "scared the shit out of him."
he ended up giving us the tour of his 1882 farmhouse on 20 acres and asking if we wanted a beer or to play boardgames.
the next day he gave us the tour of hickory corners, mi (an awesome little lake community) and took us out to breakfast. the whole time, i just remember jamin saying, "we're moving to michigan!"
we pretty much had to eat and run, but he made us feel welcome. like family. you can just tell this guy is himself no matter where he goes. he's never fake. he always feels very genuine.
of all the cool people i've come across so far, jay's probably in the top 5.

you mean "We're moving to wisconsin" - you know, michigan, wisconsin - it's all the same once you get past Chicago! :)
and we have a friend that moved here who is from Kalamazoo - wonder if they know each other? weird coincidence!
